Exploring Gardens By The Bay, Food Delights, and Beyond
Date: July 23, 2023
Singapore, the Lion City, is a vibrant metropolis known for its rich cultural diversity, impeccable cleanliness, and iconic landmarks. This tiny island nation has so much to offer to its visitors. I recently had the pleasure of spending an exciting week in Singapore, from February 16 to 23, 2023, and it was an unforgettable experience filled with exploration, culinary delights, and a venture into neighboring Malaysia. Let me share with you the highlights of my trip!
Accommodation at Jen Tanglin Hotel
We started our journey by checking into the Jen Tanglin Hotel, a contemporary and comfortable accommodation option situated in a convenient location. While the hotel may not have been the most luxurious we’ve stayed at, it provided all the necessary amenities and served as a cozy home base for our adventures. We booked the club lounge as we do with every hotel we stay in these days, but it was somewhat disappointing. Although the food was good, the beverage consisted of only beer, red and white wine.
Gardens By The Bay: A Botanical Wonderland
One of the first places we explored was the famous Gardens By The Bay. This spectacular horticultural destination is a futuristic oasis amidst the city’s bustling skyline. The Supertree Grove, with its towering vertical gardens, was an awe-inspiring sight both during the day and when illuminated at night. We also wandered through the Flower Dome, a colossal glass greenhouse showcasing an impressive array of flora from different climates around the world. The Cloud Forest was equally captivating, featuring a surreal indoor waterfall surrounded by lush greenery.
An Adventurous Road Trip to Malaysia
During our stay in Singapore, we decided to venture into Malaysia by private car. However, our excitement was tempered by the notorious traffic congestion that plagues this region. The journey to our destination was longer than expected due to the heavy traffic, but we made the most of it by enjoying the picturesque scenery along the way.
Culinary Delights: Canchita, Blue Ginger, and Newton Circus
Singapore’s culinary scene is a melting pot of flavours, influenced by the country’s diverse cultural heritage. One of the standout dining experiences was at Canchita, where we savoured delectable Peruvian cuisine. The unique blend of spices and fresh ingredients left a lasting impression on our taste buds.
Another remarkable dining experience was at Blue Ginger, where we delved into the world of Peranakan cuisine. The flavours were a beautiful amalgamation of Chinese and Malay influences, resulting in a delightful gastronomic journey.
Of course, a trip to Singapore wouldn’t be complete without indulging in its iconic dish – Chilli Crab. We headed to Newton Circus, a famous hawker centre known for its vibrant street food culture. The Chilli Crab here was everything we had hoped for – sweet, spicy, and incredibly satisfying.
Singapore is a destination that has something to offer to every traveler – from futuristic gardens to rich cultural experiences and mouthwatering cuisine. My week-long stay in this beautiful city was an enriching experience, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable journey.
Whether you’re wandering through the breathtaking Gardens By The Bay, savouring unique culinary delights at eateries like Canchita, Blue Ginger, and Newton Circus, or even embarking on an adventurous road trip to neighbouring Malaysia, Singapore has the power to captivate and enchant. It’s a destination that celebrates its traditions while embracing modernity, making it a truly unforgettable place to explore.
If you ever find yourself in Southeast Asia, don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in the wonders of Singapore. It’s a journey you’ll cherish for a lifetime!
