The reason for coming to Chiang Mai was to celebrate the wedding of John to Pattama and the day started with a long precession down the Main Street, however, this wasn’t for the bride and groom but the local flower festival which is held every year on the first weekend in February. The flower beds in public spaces all around the town are especially beautiful at this time of year. Everywhere there can be found gorgeous displays of yellow and white chrysanthemums, and the Damask Rose, a variety found only in Chiang Mai.
We rushed to get ready and got a tuk tuk down to the Ratilanna where the wedding was to be held. But managed to get there 1/2 hour early, so we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar while we waited.
The ceremony was conducted in Thai and English, but it was in the Thai tradition. It was amazing and the bride looked stunning.
After the ceremony, the sky opened up and it poured with rain. Dinner was a Thai set menu, followed by more drinking and dancing downstairs.
